CANTON, China — Adopted Montrealer Arthur Margelidon won the silver medal in the under 73 kg category at the Canton Masters Tournament in China on Saturday.

Margelidon had an almost perfect day. With his victories against Israeli Tohar Butbul and Japan’s Soichi Hashimoto during the preliminaries, as well as against Odbayar Ganbaatar of Mongolia in the quarter-finals, the 25-year-old could not get in front of Azerbaijan’s Rustam Orujov, who took gold.

Margelidon’s compatriot, Jessica Klimkait, also won the bronze medal in under 57 kg.

“It’s a big win for both athletes in terms of Olympic qualifying points. It was also their first wins in this competition,” said national judo team assistant coach Sasha Mehmedovic.
