Untouchables: Kenya demolish opponents in Tong IL Moo Do championship

Overall title beckons for Team Kenya in unified martial arts tournament in Mombasa

Team Kenya remained on course of retaining the overall title at the fifth edition of the Mombasa Open International Tong IL Moo Do championship at Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa.

The Kenyans swept most of the events in both senior and junior events of the tournament that attracted several teams from Africa and Asia.

In girls under 14 individual category, Amina Ismail led Kenyans in sweeping all the top three medals after she posted 6.92 points to win gold. Nina Mpakwanik and Mwanatum Ismael had 6.0 and 5.95 points for silver and bronze respectively.

In boys 14 years individual, Kenya once again shone brightly after Joseph Nassor won gold with 6.92 points while Alamin Ismail settled for the silver medal with 6.0 points.

In boys 15-17 years, Kenya swept all the medal with Samson Wambu, Joseph Mwanyika and Abdullah Ismael posting 7.36, 6.48 and 6.30 points for gold, silver and bronze respectively.

In special technique category for girls under 14, Dennis Shadrack led Kenyans in winning all the medals. He posted 8.08 points for gold. Fidel Junior and Eric Nyule amassed 8.06 and 7.94 points.

In female individuals form category, it was time for Philippines to shine where Raquel Valle won with 8.20 points for the gold while another Philippine Blanca Vanessa settled for silver after collecting 6.90 points. Kenya’s Ruth Rono won bronze with 6.64 points.

In ladies special category, Jacqueline Muli and Lona Abiero led Kenyans in winning gold and silver with 8.0 and 7.88 points respectively.

Pirin Pontrat from Thailand won bronze with 7.64 points.

Kenya did not get a medal in men special technique event after Noel Sequine of Philippines won gold with 8.64 points. Ethiopia’s Dawit Assefa and Thailand’s Ratsameechoklap David bagged 8.50 and 8.30 points for silver and bronze medals respectively.

In team special technique, Philippines once again showed the way to win gold. Nigeria and Kenya settled for silver and bronze respectively.

In team form category, Kenya’s best kickers’ team had 8.36 points to win gold medal.

Philippines were second with 8.26 points while Administration Police Training College won bronze with 7.58 points.

Sports Academy Chief Executive Officer, Gordon Oluoch said the government will continue sporting the sport. “We have witnessed Tong Il Moo Do grow from the grassroot to the national level and the government will continue supporting the sport,” said Oluoch.
