No. 9 Oregon baseball drops series finale to Minnesota

For the second time this week Oregon struggled to get hits with runners on base and it proved costly.

The No. 9 Ducks stranded nine and went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position in a 9-1 loss to Minnesota in eight innings Sunday afternoon at PK Park.

Minnesota (8-10, 2-4 Big Ten) got on the board in the second on an RBI single by Larson. It plated six more in the third via a bases-loaded walk, two errors that allowed three runs to score and pair of RBI singles.

Will Sanford (1-1) allowed five runs, three earned, on four hits and five walks over 2.1 innings for Oregon (17-4, 5-1). He also threw three wild pitches, struck out four and issued a balk.

The Golden Gophers added a solo home run in the seventh.

Dominic Hellman went 2 for 4 for the Ducks, who got on the board via a throwing error in the bottom of the inning but left two aboard.

Minnesota added another run in the eighth.
