Pickleball players and parents have been in a “pickle” for quite some time now. The argument started when pickleball players chalked on every possible playground to make it into their court. In one such pickleball versus parents case, West Village’s Seravalli Playground restricted pickleball on their premises.

Parents are not having it as they fear their children getting injured and also not having enough space to play on the grounds with pickleball courts. Recently, pickleball players have also gone vocal to vouch for their case.

Is Pickleball banned in Seravalli?

The parents in West Village feel their children are unwelcome in the park. They felt that the pickleball players had left no space for their children in the 1-acre asphalt area. They raised their concerns about their children’s safety as well and this grabbed the attention at the public hearing.

Now a sign reads at the fence at the 17 Horatio St. playground, “Pickleball is no longer allowed in Seravalli Playground.” The sign also stated that new courts are located at J J Walker Park, William Passannante Ballfield, and the Gertrude Kelly Playground.

However, pickleball players find this decision problematic. For them, it harps on their freedom to enjoy the game. They feel that the decision is taken in haste and only look at the time when the timings of the pickleball players and the toddlers coincide. As with every issue in America, this has also gone political with city council members intervening in the matter. A council member tweeted.

Children have reported feeling out of place at the parks due to the makeshift pickleball courts all around.
