has called out old foes Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier in a series of now-deleted tweets. The Irishman has been out of action since breaking his leg against Poirier in July 2021 but is aiming to return in early 2023 after returning to full-contact training.

The Irishman has not been tested by the UFC’s official anti-doping partner USADA since the third quarter of 2021 and was therefore expected to sit out until the back end of next year. Under the regulatory body’s guidelines, all fighters must be subject to random drugs testing for at least six months before being given the all-clear to compete again.

However, McGregor claims he has received an exemption and will only have to return two clean drugs tests in February before he is allowed to make his return. The UFC are able to waive the obligatory six-month rule with a written notice in ‘exceptional circumstances’ or ‘where the strict application of that rule would be manifestly unfair to an athlete’.

When McGregor does return, he wants to avenge his back-to-back losses to Poirier but failing that Notorious is keen to complete his trilogy with Diaz. All three men were involved in a puzzling back-and-forth last night that left MMA fans scratching their heads.

Poirier kicked off the verbal sparring session by taking a dig at McGregor. “You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again!?” wrote Poirier, in reference to McGregor’s upcoming Hollywood debut in a remake of Patrick Swayze’s Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

“Ye I’m in Amsterdam jacked like van damn. You weren’t just hurt pal. You were scared hurt don’t forget it,” replied the Irishman.

Diaz then jumped in on the action, tweeting: “You both get knocked out all the time.”

“u2 but just for the weed, we build weed company f*** the p*** sauce I gave dat tick at press conf,” McGregor bit back in a now-deleted tweet. “Not even a thanks. He going in a box me and you going in a hot box for the knock hahahaa. I’m in Amsterdam like sadam rockin round Iran ahahah van dam chop his head quick. Must.”

McGregor then went on to clarify what he meant in an equally puzzling ‘translation’: “Public translate: I’m fighting you too. But I will bury him quick first. Way handier fight/ her knickers / more recent story line etc. If he bottles it, it’s you. I’m also in Amsterdam, weeds great, and I’m not a bad guy I’m just a great martial arts actor with boat loads of money.”
