Well done Socceroos! Now at least one of the Asian teams are in the 16. Brilliant defence from Australia in the past two games. Harry Souttar in particular has been a beast, as has Goalkeeper Ryan. Top job!

Now, can Moriyasu-Japan get that win against Spain (or draw and hope Germany do not beat Costa Rica by more than 1) and make it 2 Asians in the last 16? Impossible is nothing!

There is another powerhouse European team that crumbled against the might of an Asian team.

Congratulations Socceroos!

Australia only just scraped into the tournament back in June following a penalty shootout in its qualifying match with Peru and now find themselves in the best 16.

Just hope for a decent performance against Argentina. Good luck!

A lot of unexpected outcomes in this W Cup. Should make it more interesting.

By the way I think Australia normally go through the Oceania division to enter the World Cup and are not representative of Asia. This year they squeezed in through a final Intercontinental qualification position.

Australia has been part of the Asian confederation since 2005.

Great show. And they did it without flopping.

Aussie, Aussie , Aussie! You beauties!

That 2006 Australian team was legendary.

most were stars who played in Europe - viduka, kewell, schwarzer, Neill, Cahill, Bresciano et al.

Can’t say the same about this Aussie team though.

Thoroughly outplayed by Denmark and lucky to go through by Danish keeper ineptitude. They will get a reality check from Argentina, maybe losing at least 3-0.

Someone is salty!

You can have 99% of possession if you like, but if you only have 3 shots on goal as Denmark did - compared to Australia's 4 (with a goal) - it shows the team was firing blanks. Denmark won't be #10 team for long!

Danish keeper ineptitude.

Inept? Laughable. Kasper Schmeichel is an outstanding keeper who has won an EPL and FA cup. But you wouldn't know that!

No you wouldn't know that, as your observational skills are as inept as the keeper's woeful swipe and miss of the ball. I don't care who he plays for!

Hah, have the Oz team comes from Scotland. Denmark lost to a European team last night.

False. Most come from domestic Australian A-league. There is an injured player from Scotland providing support to the team while restricted on crutches.

Australia is a nation with many immigrants and once they become Aussie citizens they are as Australian as anyone else.

Do you mean, ‘half the Aussie team play in Scotland’ ?

6 of the 26 man squad ply their trade in the Scottish league
