HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 19 (acn) Cuban Melissa Hurtado ranked third in the 48 kilograms division in the 2017 World Junior Judo Championships running until next Saturday in the Croat city of Zagreb with the presence of 590 athletes from 83 countries.
According to the website of the tournament, the Caribbean judoka beat in the bronze medal combat Russian Daria Pickaleva, and had an overall balance of four wins and one loss in the tough competition.
Prior to this bout, she defeated Argentine Agustina Lahiton, Brazilian Larisa Pimienta and Spanish Celia Hidalgo, and lost in semifinals to Spanish Laura Martinez.
Cuba also attends this event with the men Yasel Baeza (81) and Yoandy Travieso (90) and women Neirelis Fuentes (70) and Eliannis Aguilar (+78).
The first three of them will debut next Friday while Aguilar will do it on Saturday, last day of the contest.
