ABU DHABI, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti martial arts won 16 medals, including five gold, five silver, and six bronze, during their participation in the UAE Kyokushin Karate Open tournament, which concluded on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
The Kuwaiti Karate practitioners showed tremendous control and performed extremely well despite the fierce competition, Team Director Sensei Hassan Al-Kanderi told KUNA.
Al-Kanderi added that the goal was to achieve good results and improve the participants' skills, increasing their experience for future events.
Al-Kanderi noted that the one-day tournament, hosted in Etihad Hall, saw the participation of 70 Karatekas representing the nine countries of Lebanon, Philippine, Brazil, India, Libya, Algeria, Syria, Kuwait, and host nation UAE.
Kyokushin is a hard style of Karate made popular by founder Masutatsu Oyama in 1964. (end) bsu.mb
